Major Closure of I-5 This Fall for Up to Five Weeks Could Impact Portland Area Businesses

Beginning September 11, ODOT's I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project will close all southbound I-5 lanes between I-405 and I-84 near the Moda Center for as long as five weeks. One lane will stay open to the Broadway exit so local access is maintained. We know closures like this can seriously affect local businesses, and we want to make sure you have the support you need to get through it.
To help you prepare, ODOT is hosting a webinar in early August covering the closure details, anticipated traffic impacts, and resources available to businesses. The session will be offered twice, with identical content each time, so choose whichever date works best for you. A recording will be shared with all registrants afterward and posted to the Business Toolkit (details below) for anyone who can't attend live.
Webinar Dates and Registration:
- August 4, 12–1 p.m. — Register here
- August 5, 4–5 p.m. — Register here
The project team has also put together a Business Toolkit full of resources to help you prepare for and navigate the closure. It includes ready-to-use newsletter and social media content, graphics, maps, fact sheets, QR codes, and other materials you can share with employees, customers, vendors, and the community. Since we'll keep adding new materials up until the closure begins, we recommend bookmarking the page and checking back regularly.
For employees looking for alternate commute options during the closure, the Travel Resources Page is a helpful reference. You can also sign up for construction alerts to stay informed.
Thank you for your time. If you have questions about the webinars or the toolkit, feel free to reach out to Rose Gerber, Communications Manager for the Rose Quarter Project, at Rose.Gerber@odot.oregon.gov.
