A Successful Earth Day Clean-up Event

The Pearl District Neighborhood Association (PDNA) and Loving One Another (LOA) joined forces on April 22nd to host an Earth Day gathering aimed at cleaning up and revitalizing the Pearl District. With an enthusiastic response from the community, the event turned out to be a resounding success, leaving a positive impact on both the neighborhood and the environment.

Residents and businesses of the Pearl District came together to support the cause, demonstrating their commitment to building a safe, beautiful, and sustainable community. The event, organized in collaboration with Green Century Recycling, provided a convenient opportunity for residents to responsibly dispose of their unwanted computers, electronics, and small appliances, promoting eco-friendly practices and minimizing electronic waste.

The day commenced with a motivated group of volunteers gathering at PNCA on NW Broadway. Armed with cleaning supplies and a shared sense of purpose, participants dispersed throughout the district, tackling various tasks such as graffiti removal, street cleaning, and park maintenance. Their collective efforts not only beautified the neighborhood but also contributed to a safer and healthier environment for everyone.

One of the highlights of the day was Loving One Another receiving a well-deserved award for their transformative work in assisting individuals experiencing homelessness. Alex Stone, CEO of Loving One Another, expressed gratitude for the community's support and emphasized the significance of practicing activism by extending love and kindness to our neighbors. Their dedication to creating positive change within the district was truly inspiring.

PDNA Board President Stanley Penkin praised the community's collaboration and noted that, particularly in challenging times, unity and cooperation are essential for maintaining a vibrant neighborhood. He invited everyone to continue their involvement in building a loving and inclusive community for all.

The event's success would not have been possible without the generous support of key sponsors such as Milgard Windows and Doors and the Miter Foundation, as well as other organizations like Pacific Echelon, Adopt One Block, and Transformation Strategies. Their commitment to the Pearl District Restoration Project and their invaluable contributions ensured the event's smooth execution and provided opportunities for long-term community support.

Pat Olsen, Co-Chair of the Miter Foundation and co-sponsor of the Earth Day event, emphasized the importance of collective efforts in restoring the city and addressing the challenges it faces. The event served as a platform not only for restoring the Pearl District but also for addressing homelessness, improving neighborhood safety, and reinforcing security. The Pearl District Neighborhood Association extends its heartfelt appreciation to all the participants, sponsors, and volunteers who made this Earth Day gathering an outstanding success. Their dedication to preserving the beauty of the Pearl District and their commitment to creating a thriving community for everyone is commendable.
