A nationwide test of the emergency alert system (EAS) is occurring on Wednesday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m. P.S.T. EAS tests occur frequently at the local level, but this will be the first time the system has been activated simultaneously throughout the country. For more information, visit the FEMA website.
To avoid confusion, the City of Portland is working with the media and our partners in the region to raise awareness and inform residents about this event to avoid calling 911 when the test occurs. As trusted community volunteers, I’d like your assistance getting the word out. Please consider forwarding the attached document to your friends and neighbors, and emphasize the following:
  • This is a test.
  • When the test occurs, please do not call 911.
